The Department of Materials and Materials Processing Technologies was established in 2010 and continues its education and training activities with the Furniture and Decoration program affiliated with the department. The Furniture and Decoration Program is a program that covers wood and wood-derived materials, furniture hardware and fittings, furniture design, production methods and technologies, periodic maintenance of machines, and production and commissioning according to the given program. The aim of the Furniture and Decoration Program is to enable students to design, produce, market, and decorate high-quality furniture that meets the needs of public and private sector businesses, using wood and wood-derived technological building materials, in accordance with ergonomic rules, high-quality standard furniture that can be decorated in a way that ensures the design, production, marketing, and most appropriate use within the space, and to train intermediate-level personnel needed by public and private sector businesses as “Furniture and Decoration Technicians” at the associate degree level.


Admission Requirements: Prospective students are placed by ÖSYM based on their high school diploma and their score on the TYT central exam, and the quota is 50 students.


Graduation Requirements: Students must successfully complete the mandatory courses specified in the curriculum, consisting of 4 semesters (2 years) of practical and theoretical instruction, as well as the minimum number of elective courses required, have earned at least 120 ECTS credits, have a general grade point average of 60 (CC) out of 100 and a 2.00/4 average, and have completed a 20-day Industry-Based Application (Internship) to graduate.


Employment Opportunities: Graduates of the Furniture and Decoration program can find employment in furniture manufacturing companies, interior design firms, and related industries.


Undergraduate Programs Eligible for Selection via the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS): Students graduating from the Furniture and Decoration program may have the opportunity to obtain a bachelor's degree if they achieve a sufficient score on the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS). Bachelor's degrees include: Woodworking Industrial Engineering, Industrial Design, Interior Architecture, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Forest Industry Engineering, and Forest Engineering.


Physical Facilities: In addition to the facilities offered at Mersin University's Çiftlikköy Campus, there is a Furniture and Decoration Laboratory with a 250m² enclosed area where practical courses are held.
