Restoration and Conservation Center

 Mersin University's Restoration and Conservation Center (RKM) was established and began operations with the publication of its establishment regulations in the Official Gazette, numbered 24925, dated November 3, 2002. The Center continues to operate under the new regulations, which were enacted upon publication in the Official Gazette, numbered 29429, dated July 29, 2015.


In line with its founding purpose, the Center conducts scientific, professional, and educational studies on the identification, documentation, protection, restoration, and use of immovable cultural assets in our country and region. Projects are undertaken to disseminate appropriate conservation methods and tools, and the resulting studies are published. In this context, the Center organizes scientific events at national and international levels, fostering collaboration between the university and the public, private sector, and international organizations, contributing to the preservation and preservation of cultural assets in our province and region.


Vision


To be a center that has a voice in the development of policies for the preservation and preservation of immovable cultural assets and is recognized regionally for its work. To be recognized as a reliable and effective center that plays a leading role in this field by effectively utilizing digital-based methods; creates a knowledge base and archive of the region's cultural heritage and conservation efforts; expands its academic and societal impact through interdisciplinary collaborations; and works in strong partnerships with communities and institutions.


Mission


To contribute to the preservation, documentation, restoration, and reuse of immovable cultural assets through scientific, interdisciplinary, and innovative approaches; to support the adoption of sound approaches and policies regarding the sustainability of cultural assets and to disseminate these approaches; and to support the preservation and preservation of cultural heritage at all scales through projects, research, and publications.


To empower local actors through training, consultancy, and publication activities aimed at raising public awareness; to increase public access by digitally archiving acquired information and documents; and to encourage efforts that support university-community collaboration, thereby contributing to the sustainability of cultural heritage at national and international levels.
